Shulou(Shulou.com)11/24 Report--
CTOnews.com, Nov. 16, Qualcomm held the 2022 Snapdragon Summit in Hawaii this morning, where it officially unveiled its new flagship Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor, which has been improved in all aspects compared with the first generation.
The Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 model is SM8550-AB and is manufactured using a 4-nanometer process. Here are more details about the chip:
Although CPU and GPU Qualcomm are currently focused on improving energy efficiency, the new chip still brings a significant speed increase, with up to 35% improvement in CPU performance and 40% improvement in energy efficiency compared to Snapdragon 8 Gen 1.
Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 clock speed is the same as 8 + Gen 1, but the core composition is not the same. The new processor uses a new 1 / 2 / 2 / 3 architecture, and a very large core Kryo Prime core (based on Cortex-X3) runs in 3.2GHz to provide high single-threaded performance. There are also four performance cores running on 2.8GHz to better handle multithreaded workloads. Finally, there are three efficiency cores with a frequency of 2.0GHz.
Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 brings support for new, faster memory technologies. Memory now supports LP-DDR5X at frequencies up to 4200MHz (higher than LP-DDR5 's 3200MHz), and storage supports the new UFS 4.0.
The Adreno GPU on Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 has a 25% performance improvement and 45% power efficiency improvement, as well as hardware-accelerated ray tracing support for Snapdragon platform. In addition, this GPU is the first GPU to support Vulkan 1.3 (and OpenGL ES 3.2).
Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 supports QHD + resolution displays up to 144Hz refresh rates, or 60Hz 4K displays, as well as external displays up to 4K and 60Hz (with 10-bit Rec.2020 gamut, HDR10 + and Dolby Vision functions). It also supports AV1 video decoding and supports data streams up to 8K and 60fps (including HDR).
Camera Qualcomm claims that Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 has optimized Sony sensors that support Digital Overla HDR (DOL-HDR) and Samsung's 200 megapixel HP3 sensors to work with Snapdragon ISP. Like the previous generation, Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 is equipped with 18-bit 3 ISP, can handle three 3600 megapixel camera (30fps) data at the same time, supports up to 200MP for a single camera pixel, and supports 10800 megapixel sensors with zero shutter lag.
For video, the chipset can shoot 8K HDR pictures with 30fps (and 6400 megapixel photos at the same time), 4K pictures with 120fps, and also support slow-motion video (720p of 960fps). Supports a variety of HDR formats, including HDR10+, HLG, and Dolby Vision.
The network Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 has been upgraded to the new Snapdragon X70 modem, which supports both millimeter wave and sub 6GHz 5G networks. The peak downlink speed is 10Gbps and the peak uplink speed is 3.5Gbps (similar to the previous generation).
The modem supports dual SIM cards, dual activation (DSDA) operation, where two 5G SIM cards (or 5G+4G) can be activated at the same time.
Thanks to the new FastConnect 7800 system, Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 supports the Wi-Fi 7 standard (802.11be) with a maximum speed of 5.8Gbps (higher than the previous 3.6Gbps). In addition to speed, the new standard also reduces latency.
As before, the FastConnect system supports Bluetooth 5.3. with the latest Snapdragon sound system, it can provide 48kHz's lossless music stream and the lowest 48ms latency ever. In terms of wired connection, the chip supports USB 3.1 and Quick Charge 5.
AI's new Hexagon processor introduces support for the new INT4 format for the first time on Qualcomm's mobile chips, with a 60 per cent improvement in performance per watt.
Hexagon is also generally faster, and the performance of artificial intelligence has been improved by 4.35 times. You can improve the quality of photos by identifying which parts of the image are faces, hair, clothes, backgrounds, etc.
It will be launched soon
CTOnews.com learned that Qualcomm said that Asustek ROG, Glory, iQOO, Motorola, Nubia, one plus, OPPO, Red Devils, Sharp, Sony, vivo, Xiaomi, Star Age / Meizu and ZTE (not mentioning Samsung) would all launch phones with Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor, and the first phones based on the processor would be available by the end of this year, but Qualcomm did not say which one would be the first, but OPPO has said The new second-generation Snapdragon 8 flagship mobile platform will be installed in the first batch of the next generation of Find X flagship products.
