Shulou(Shulou.com)11/24 Report--
CTOnews.com November 15, Apple announced in a press release that the iPhone 14 / Pro satellite SOS emergency service was officially launched in the United States and Canada today and will be extended to more countries and regions in December.
Apple says the technology applies to all iPhone 14 / Pro models and allows users to send messages through emergency services beyond cellular network and Wi-Fi coverage. In addition, if users want to inform friends and family of their whereabouts when they leave the network coverage, they can now open the find app and share their location via satellite. Starting today (November 15), iPhone 14 / Pro series users in the United States and Canada will be able to use emergency SOS via satellite and will be available in France, Germany, Ireland and the United Kingdom in December.
CTOnews.com learned that if users are unable to contact emergency services because there is no available cellular network or Wi-Fi coverage, an easy-to-use interface appears on iPhone to help users get help using satellite connections.
Users will receive a short questionnaire to help users answer important questions with a few simple clicks and transmit the information to the dispatcher to ensure that they can quickly understand the user's situation and location.
After completing the questionnaire, the interface guides the user to where to connect the iPhone and send a message. This message includes the user's questionnaire response, location, height information, iPhone battery power, and so on. Questionnaires and follow-up messages are forwarded directly by satellite to dispatchers who receive text messages, or to a forwarding center of experts officially trained by Apple, who can ask for help on behalf of users. The transcripts can also be shared with users' emergency contacts to keep them informed.
Apple says it has designed and built custom components and software that allow the iPhone 14 / Pro series to connect to the satellite's unique frequencies without bulky antennas. Apple has also developed a text compression algorithm that reduces the average message size by 300% to make the experience as fast as possible. Through the satellite emergency call for help, users can send and receive messages in as little as 15 seconds under clear weather conditions. Users can use the built-in satellite emergency demonstration to test the satellite connection on the iPhone by connecting to a real satellite in the range without triggering the emergency call service.
For users who do not have a network connection but have not encountered an emergency, they can also share their location with Find My via satellite. In the find application, users can open the "I" tab, swipe up to see "my location" via satellite, and then click "send my location". The iPhone 14 / Pro series of satellite connections can also be used in conjunction with other security features available on iPhone and Apple Watch, including collision detection and fall detection.
CTOnews.com learned that the service will be free for two years from the date of activation of the iPhone 14 / Pro series of phones. I need to upgrade to the official version of iOS 16.1 by satellite emergency call and satellite search.
