This marks the Meridian Project Phase II Circular Array Solar Radio Imaging Telescope as a major national scientific and technological infrastructure has officially entered the joint adjustment and joint test stage.
According to the CCTV news, the circular array solar radio imaging telescope is a comprehensive aperture radio telescope composed of 313 antennas with a diameter of 6 meters. The antennas are evenly distributed on the ring with a diameter of 1 km. The 100-meter-high calibration tower in the center of the ring provides a calibration benchmark for the entire observation link, shaped like a giant "thousand-eye bead." The telescope works in the radio frequency band of 150MHz-450MHz to observe the solar burst by imaging and spectral observation.
CTOnews.com learned that in 2019, the second phase of the Meridian Project was approved by the state to start construction, and in the same year, the local project supported by the Sichuan provincial government for circular array solar radio imaging telescopes was approved and construction began. During the construction, the project team creatively adopted the "three-step" construction plan of 2-unit system development, 16-unit verification development and 313-unit large-scale system construction, which effectively promoted the research and development work.
After the completion of the system integration, the circular array solar radio imaging telescope project will enter a tense joint test stage, which is expected to be completed in June 2023, enter the trial operation stage, and fully put into scientific research.
After the completion of the circular array solar radio imaging telescope, it can real-time monitor the source of earth space weather events, monitor solar radio flares, and track the formation, evolution and interplanetary process of coronal mass ejection (CME). It plays an important role in exploring the dynamic characteristics and variation laws of solar-terrestrial space environment with high temporal and spatial resolution in the second phase of Meridian Project. It will play an important role in the field of night astronomy such as pulsar search.
