Beijing, Nov. 15 (Xinhua) just before Elon Musk was ready to launch Twitter Blue, a $8 paid authentication service for Blue V, Twitter's internal team had warned him that the service could cause fake account problems and widespread confusion, according to technology news website Platformer. However, Musk was desperate to launch the service.

The warning came from Twitter's trust and security services, just a week before Musk began implementing the overhauled authentication system. On November 1, Twitter Trust and Security began circulating a seven-page document. In the document, the team highlighted the dangers in Mr Musk's Twitter Blue plan and gave him advice on how to circumvent them.

In their recommendations, the Twitter Trust and Security team warned that the new certification service would lead users to "impersonate world leaders, advertisers, brand partners, election officials and other celebrities". The team also predicts that fraudsters and dangerous elements are willing to pay $8 for the Blue V mark because the "benefits outweigh the costs".

Mr Musk and his personal lawyer, Alex Spiro Spiro, as well as Esther Crawford, Twitter's director of product management, were briefed on the document, Platformer said. However, they did not seem to follow these suggestions and launched Twitter Blue on November 9.

As a result, these warnings quickly became a reality. After the launch of Twitter Blue, swindlers and fraudsters began to post misleading tweets posing as the official accounts of former US President George W. Bush, pharmaceutical company Lilly and Tesla. Twitter was forced to stop Twitter Blue on Thursday because of the proliferation of fake accounts.
