Shulou(Shulou.com)11/24 Report--
CTOnews.com, Nov. 15 (Xinhua) Norwegian power giant Equinor has developed the world's largest offshore floating wind farm, Hywind Tampen, which consists of 11 8.6MW (MW) turbines located about 140km off the Norwegian coast, with a water depth of between 260m and 300m, which was first launched yesterday.
The wind farm's seven turbines are currently scheduled to be put into use this year, while the next four turbines have been assembled this fall. Weather permitting, the remaining ones will also be ready for use in 2023.
According to reports, the 94.6MW, 488 million euro (about 3.548 billion yuan) project will provide electricity to the Snorre and Gullfaks oil and gas fields in Norway's North Sea, so it will also be the world's first floating wind farm to power offshore oil and gas platforms, and it is expected to meet 35% of the annual power needs of five platforms.
Equinor asserted that Hywind Tampen would reduce the demand for locally produced natural gas to generate electricity, "thereby reducing the oil field's annual carbon dioxide emissions of about 200000 tons, which is equivalent to 100000 vehicles."
CTOnews.com learned that Norway has always been in the forefront in the field of new energy, such as the number of electric vehicles per capita in the world, while Xiaopeng, Ulai, Lantu, BYD, Tesla and other car companies have good sales in the country.
The company plans to develop 30 gigawatts of offshore wind energy by 2040, but the country is also the largest oil and gas producer in Western Europe. It is reported that the oil sector accounts for about 40% of Norway's exports and 14% of Norway's gross domestic product.
The Norwegian government says it is committed to reducing the country's net emissions by 55 per cent from 1990 levels by 2030. This is in line with the goals of the European Union. But unlike its neighbours, Norway says it will gradually switch to clean energy and has no intention of giving up oil and gas exploration.
