CTOnews.com, November 15 (Xinhua) according to South Korean media BusinessKorea, Samsung Electronics and LG Electronics' inventory assets (Inventory Assets) increased in the third quarter because they increased their purchases of raw materials to guard against supply chain risks, and global demand for their products has not recovered during the ongoing economic recession.

CTOnews.com learned that Samsung's inventory assets totaled more than 57 trillion won (about 302.1 billion yuan) in the third quarter, up 51.6 percent from a year earlier. Since the outbreak, its inventory assets have continued to increase. Specifically, the figure was about 6.9 trillion won in the third quarter of 2019, 5.8 trillion won in the fourth quarter of 2019, 32 trillion won in the fourth quarter of 2020 and 41 trillion won in the fourth quarter of 2021.

In the third quarter, LG electronics' inventory assets rose 12.5% from a year earlier to 11.2 trillion won. LG's inventory assets were less than 5.9 trillion won at the end of 2020, but increased to 7.4 trillion won at the end of 2019 and 9.7 trillion won at the end of 2021.

In terms of inventory turnover, Samsung Electronics' inventory turnover fell from 4.6 to 3.8 LG Electronics' inventory turnover fell from 6.1 to 5.8, which means that sales of their products decreased in the third quarter of this year compared with the same period last year.

Inventory assets refer to the assets that enterprises reserve for sale or consumption in the process of production and operation. Inventory assets include raw materials, fuel, products in process, self-made semi-finished products, finished goods, low-value consumables, packaging, spare parts for repair, purchased goods and so on. Inventory turnover is the number of turnover of goods in stock within a certain period of time. It is an indicator to reflect the speed of inventory turnover. The higher the turnover rate, the better the sales.
