Thanks to CTOnews.com netizen OC_Formula for the clue delivery! CTOnews.com, Nov. 15, Nintendo Miyamoto recently hinted at an improvement in backward compatibility when asked about plans for the next generation of game consoles. In a question-and-answer session after the latest earnings release, participants asked a number of Nintendo executives whether the company had considered backward compatibility when developing new hardware.

Shigeru Miyamoto, male, was born in Kyoto, Japan on November 16, 1952. He is a famous video game producer, director and general manager of the Intelligence Development Department (Entertainment Analysis and Development) of Nintendo, a world-famous game company, and the founder of Nintendo game culture. Although Miyamoto did not specify which direction Nintendo consoles will take in the future, he also said that from a technology implementation point of view, backward compatibility is easier to achieve than in the past.

CTOnews.com learned that Miyamoto said at the meeting

In the past, we provided a service called "Virtual Console" that allowed users to play old games on new consoles with newer hardware. As long as the hardware remains the same, these games can continue to be played.

But as I said before, the publishing rights of games are very complex, and we will not add games until we get the necessary rights.

Admittedly, video games developed for different dedicated game consoles are created in different development environments. Therefore, when the hardware changes, these development environments may not necessarily be reused. As a result, games developed for old consoles cannot be played on new consoles without extra processing.

But now that the development environment is increasingly standardized, we now have a new environment that makes it easier for players to enjoy old games on newer consoles. However, Nintendo's advantage is to create new video game experiences, so when we release new hardware in the future, we want to showcase unique video games that cannot be created with pre-existing hardware.
