CTOnews.com, November 15, according to the official news of China Nuclear Power, the output power of the flywheel energy storage unit of the Inner Mongolia Autonomous region, a major scientific and technological project "MW (megawatt) class advanced flywheel energy storage key technology research", led by China Nuclear Power Huineng, has recently reached 1MW for the first time.

China Nuclear Power said that this is the maximum grid-connected power of a single flywheel in China for the first time, and completed the core components flywheel, motor, magnetic bearing and stand-alone integrated control test.

According to reports, the demonstration project carried out at Erlianhaote Wind Farm will explore the operation mode in which flywheels, batteries and wind farms work together to meet the requirements of primary frequency modulation through the long-term operation of the hybrid energy storage system on the grid, so as to find the most economical solution for primary frequency regulation of wind farms.

CTOnews.com learned that according to the plan, the three 1MW flywheels will continue to carry out array coordinated control tests and then be merged into the China Nuclear Energy Exchange Erlianhot 99MW Wind Farm to form a hybrid energy storage system with 3MW / 3MWh battery energy storage to provide primary frequency modulation service for Erlianhot Wind Farm. This project will provide important experimental data and practical experience for exploring the practical application of flywheel energy storage array system in primary frequency modulation of wind farm.
