CTOnews.com, November 14, the development cycle for the next Ubuntu Linux version, Ubuntu 23.04, has officially begun, and the Ubuntu team has announced an official release date and a complete release schedule, including all the details you need to know.

Ubuntu 23.04, which Canonical calls "Lunar Lobster", is expected to be released on April 20, 2023. This will be the 38th Ubuntu version of Canonical, a so-called temporary version that supports only nine months of software and security updates until January 2024.

The six-month development cycle officially begins with the upload of the tool chain at the end of October 2022, and the first Ubuntu testing week will begin as soon as December 29 of next month.

According to the release schedule, Ubuntu 23.04 will hold its second "Ubuntu testing week" in the first week of March next year, and the Beta version will be available for public testing on March 30, 2023.

CTOnews.com learned that other important development phases of Ubuntu 23.04 "Lunar Lobster" include the function freeze and Debian import freeze, both on February 23, the kernel freeze on April 6, and the final freeze on April 13, 2023.

It is too early to talk about the new features of Ubuntu 23.04. it is expected to ship with the upcoming GNOME 44 desktop environment, which is scheduled for release on March 22, 2023 and is likely to be driven by the upcoming Linux 6.2 kernel family, which is expected to be released in early or mid-February 2023.

Other new GNU / Linux technologies in the "Lunar Lobster" version include GCC 13 as the optional system compiler, LLVM 16, the default Python 3.11, GNU Binutils 2.40, GNU C Library 2.37, OpenLDAP 2.6, go 1.20, and PolicyKit 122.

In addition, it seems that Ubuntu 23.04 will introduce a long-awaited new installer written in Flutter.
