CTOnews.com learned that according to the plan, the three 1MW flywheels will continue to carry out array coordinated control tests and then be merged into the China Nuclear Energy Exchange Erlianhot 99MW Wind Farm to form a hybrid energy storage system with 3MW / 3MWh battery energy storage to provide primary frequency modulation service for Erlianhot Wind Farm.

This project will provide important experimental data and practical experience for exploring the practical application of flywheel energy storage array system in primary frequency modulation of wind farm. In July 2020, the flywheel and battery hybrid energy storage system participated in the scientific experiment of primary frequency regulation of power grid, which proved that the characteristic of fast high frequency response of flywheel is the most suitable for primary frequency regulation application, which can effectively improve the operating condition of battery energy storage system and prolong battery life.
