Microsoft recently admitted that there was a problem with Direct Access, the remote connection feature in the Win 10 Compact 11 system. CTOnews.com learned that the affected versions are mainly Windows 11 21H2 and 22H2 two major feature updates, Windows 10 Version 20H2, 21H1, 21H2 and 22H2, as well as Enterprise LTSC 2019 and Windows Server 2019 Universe 2022.

CTOnews.com learned that Microsoft described the issue as: "after a 'temporary loss of network connection or switching between Wi-Fi networks or access points', a Direct Access connection may fail on the affected system. This problem also occurs after installing a 10-month update or newer update on the affected system."

Microsoft also pointed out that devices using other remotely connected solutions such as VPN and Always on VPN should not be affected. Since most home devices have direct access to network resources that are mainly used for remote access to organizations, they are not affected by this problem.

Microsoft says the issue can be resolved using known problem rollback (Known Issue Rollback), and it can take up to 24 hours for devices that have not yet been managed to be updated. Microsoft also said that rebooting the device might help solve the problem. Devices that are managed by the enterprise do not automatically receive repairs, and administrators need to install and configure special policies to resolve problems on these devices.

DirectAccess, sometimes called DirectAccess by Microsoft, is a network technology that supports remote connections. It enables Windows users to access the organization's network resources without using a VPN connection.

Remote clients always connect to the organization through direct access. Microsoft recommends using Direct Access only on Windows devices running versions of Windows prior to Windows 10. On Windows 10 and later, Microsoft recommends that organizations switch to Always on VPN.
