CTOnews.com, November 14 (Xinhua)-- the European joint venture between SK On, a power battery maker, and Ford Motor will set up a new battery factory in Turkey. The new plant is expected to be modelled on the design of the Hungarian plant and will be completed in 2025, with an initial annual production capacity of 30GW and a maximum of 45GW in the future, with a total of 18 production lines expected.

According to South Korean media reports, SK On, Ford and Turkish conglomerate Goz holding the new battery plant will land in Ankara, Turkey, and will adopt the design of the Hungarian Ivanjo factory to speed up the construction of the new plant.

According to reports, the new Turkish plant is expected to take another year and a half from equipment ordering to production, while SK On will start purchasing equipment in the second half of next year and is expected to start production in 2025.

If the new Turkish factory adopts the same design as the Hungarian plant, it is expected that the plant may also produce 3060 batteries, which can be used in commercial vehicles such as Ford pick-up trucks, passenger cars and vans.

SK On, Ford this investment in addition to the local government subsidies, may also include industry considerations. Turkey is the location of the Ford vehicle plant, the local Tier-1 ecosystem has been improved, and considering that Hyundai and Kia are also entering the market, it will be beneficial for SK On to expand more partners in the future.
