CTOnews.com, November 14 (Xinhua)-- the official Wechat account of Lonely Planet Magazine issued a suspension announcement today, saying that the December 2022 issue will be the last issue of the Chinese edition of Lonely Planet magazine, and the magazine will be officially closed next year.

Lonely Planet China has gone through 125 issues since its launch in August 2012, the announcement said. Although the magazine is going out of print, the editorial department will continue to bring readers high-quality content about travel and lifestyle, and maintain close contact with travelers on various social media platforms.

CTOnews.com learned that the official Weibo post of Lonely Planet (Lonely Planet) said that Lonely Planet Magazine is a monthly magazine licensed by the Lonely Planet brand and produced and distributed by China Cartographic Publishing House. Due to the expiration of the contract and other reasons, the magazine will be closed in China from next year. The original "Lonely Planet" Wechat official account and Weibo will be completely separated from the LP brand at that time. Lonely Planet guide books will continue to be sold, and the Lonely Planet brand will continue to operate in China.

According to public sources, Lonely Planet is the world's largest private guidebook publisher founded by Tony Wheeler and Maureen Wheeler in Futzclair, on the western outskirts of Melbourne, Victoria, in 1972. With offices in London, Auckland, New Delhi and Beijing, its guidebook, known as the Lonely Planet series, has a long history and is the first travel series written for backpackers. It is widely respected by backpackers and other low-cost tourists. Lonely Planet first entered the Chinese market in 2006, published by Life Reading New knowledge Sanlian Bookstore, and released a magazine series in China in August 2012, which was introduced by Fujian Straits Book Publishing Co., Ltd.

Lonely Planet magazine began shutting down some of its operations as early as 2020.
