CTOnews.com, Nov. 14 (Xinhua) Microsoft's acquisition of Activision Blizzard for nearly $69 billion is undoubtedly a controversial topic in the gaming world, and different regulators have different concerns about the impact of the acquisition on the future gaming market. As a regulator, it should be neutral about the acquisition, but a recent tweet by a senior European Commission executive raised public questions.

CTOnews.com learned that the European Commission said on the 8th of this month that it had launched an in-depth antitrust investigation into Microsoft's acquisition of Activision Blizzard, the maker of the popular video game call of Duty. But Ricardo Cardoso, the EU official in charge of EU inter-agency and outreach affairs, wrote in a recent tweet:

The committee is working to ensure that you can still play call of Duty on other consoles, including my Playstation console.

One user commented:

The openness of regulators to their own prejudices is deeply worrying. "My PlayStation" certainly does not mean objectivity or impartiality. Sony has been an industry leader for some time, and regulators seem more concerned about making sure it stays that way.

Another user questioned Cardoso:

Are you speaking as a PlayStation user or as a fair member of the committee who has an obligation to maintain a fair attitude and study fair competition? Your job responsibilities should also ensure the rights and interests of Xbox users, even if you are not a Xbox user.

Some believe the tweet will help Microsoft further justify its proposed acquisition by highlighting the biases implied in Cardoso's statement. However, the Commission clarified the issue through a statement to the TweakTown, saying that Cardoso was not part of the team investigating the merger.

European Commission spokeswoman Adriana Podesta (Adriana Podesta) told TweakTown:

As you rightly pointed out, Mr. Cardoso works in the internal market, not the General Administration of Competition. Mr. Cardoso was not involved in the evaluation of the deal. In addition, as made clear in his Twitter profile, he tweeted in his personal capacity.
