CTOnews.com, Nov. 14 (Xinhua)-- Porsche has confirmed the technical details of the upcoming Porsche Macan EV electric vehicle, a key product for its first entry into the electric SUV field.
Antoon Janssen, powertrain manager of the Porsche Macan series, told Autocar that they planned to make the Macan electric vehicle based on the new high-end electric platform (PPE) the most sporty of its class.
The Macan EV will be equipped with a pair of permanent magnet motors, each located on the front and rear axles. The motor is similar to the motor used in the Porsche Taycan, but in order to improve the power density and efficiency, the Macan EV motor has undergone a lot of modifications, adopting a new "double V" magnet layout and using silicon carbide material, which reduces the switching loss of the motor pulse inverter, that is, reducing power leakage. These improvements enable the Macan EV to achieve 603bhp power output and torque of more than 996Nm.
Dominik Hartmann, the chassis manager of the Macan EV model, confirmed that the car would have a "high-performance rear axle" with motors installed in the rear as much as possible. This results in a weight distribution of 48% at the front and 52% at the rear to maximize traction.
The Macan EV will also be the first model to use Porsche's dual-valve shock absorbers, which are said to be independently adjusted through Porsche's active suspension management (PASM) system to improve ride comfort. In addition, when the vehicle reaches a certain speed, the suspension will be lowered to improve the aerodynamic shape of the car and reduce energy consumption.
To improve mobility, the Macan EV has a 15% increase in steering angle compared to fuel models and a rear wheel steering function of up to 5.0degrees (less than 80km / h). The top model will also be equipped with an electronically locked differential mounted on the rear axle to improve its front and rear torque vector capacity.
All Macan EV models will be equipped with 100kWh's lithium-ion battery, and the company does not provide its battery life, as a reference, the Taycan model with 93kWh battery pack has a range of 314 miles (about 505.33 km). Because Macan EV adopts 800V high voltage PPE platform, its maximum charge rate exceeds that of 270kW.
CTOnews.com learned that delivery of the Macan electric car, which was originally scheduled for next year, was currently scheduled for 2024, but was delayed due to development difficulties in Cariad, Volkswagen's software division. The new Panamera electric car will also be launched in 2026, which is said to be slightly larger than the current Taycan, while the Taycan itself will usher in a second-generation model next year. Porsche aims to make electric cars account for 50% of its global sales by 2025 and 80% by 2030.
