CTOnews.com, November 14 (Xinhua)-- Apple's hybrid reality has been rumored for years and may be released sometime in 2023. Apple is continuing to step up efforts to recruit teams working on AR and VR technologies, including new employees and a former Apple engineer who left the company last year, according to a new report from Bloomberg today.

CTOnews.com learned that in the latest Power On newsletter, Bloomberg's Mark Gurman said the first version of the operating system running on Apple's hybrid reality headset, codenamed Oak, was "in the process of internal finalization", so it "should be ready for next year's new hardware."

Although Apple has significantly reduced hiring, the company is still looking for people to join the team that mixes reality Touxian and other AR / VR technologies. Apple continues to adjust its research team, which is Apple's "technology development team", often referred to as TDG.

Some job postings suggest that Apple is stepping up its efforts to support the device with content. The company is looking for a software producer with visual effects and experience in game asset pipelines to create digital content for enhanced and virtual reality environments.

The recruitment message also suggests that Apple is looking to set up a video service for Touxian that provides 3D content that can be played in virtual reality.

Apple's recruitment message also emphasizes that the company wants to introduce third-party applications into its hybrid reality. The company is looking for engineers to "work on the App Intents framework to help design and implement solutions" such as keyboard shortcuts, search, Siri, etc.

Perhaps most notably, a to-do list of the technology development team is aimed at engineers who "have tools and frameworks to achieve a connected experience in a 3D hybrid real world." Gurman pointed out that it sounded like "a virtual environment similar to a meta-universe," and the job post read: "you will work closely with Apple's UI framework, human-machine interface designers and system capability team to drive your divergent thinking and solve incredible challenges and interesting problems in 3D application space."

Apple also hired Dave Scott, a former Apple senior manager who worked on the company's Titan project self-driving car team until 2021. In the Titan project team, Dave Scott led the team of car-related robotics, but he briefly became chief executive of a healthcare startup.

Given Dave Scott's work in medical and robotics, Bloomberg said his "involvement may indicate that there are some healthy applications in the head."

Apple has also transferred engineers working on other projects to the Touxian team, including Yaniv Gur, a senior engineering director with 20 years of experience at Apple. Prior to joining the headline group, Gur oversaw the engineering of iWork applications (Pages, Keynote, and Numbers), as well as Books, Notes, and news applications across the company's platforms. The headset team already has an operating system director, Geoff Stahl, so Gurman believes Gur's appointment means the company is developing a productivity application for headphones.

The current news is that Apple will release some form of hybrid reality headline in 2023, but it is expected to be very expensive. The first version may not be aimed at mass consumers, but for "professional" users and developers. Earlier sources said it could cost between $2000 and $3000, with a Mac M2 chip, more than 10 cameras inside and outside the device, and the highest resolution display screen unmatched by similar products.
