Beijing, Nov. 14 (Xinhua) according to internal communication records shared by full-time Twitter employees, a large number of Twitter contractors found that they were suddenly fired this weekend because they no longer had access to Twitter chat tool Slack and other work systems.

Musk's Twitter account according to Platformer, a technology news site, Twitter reported that Twitter had terminated the contracts of 4400 contractors, accounting for 80 per cent of a total of 5500 contractors. The layoffs will have a significant impact on the content review and core infrastructure services that keep the site running.

Some of the Twitter contractors work in overseas regions such as India. Full-time Twitter employees said they had not received any internal notice before the contractor they worked with was fired. According to these employees, Twitter has fired all internal communication teams. They also said with a wry smile that the media covering the company now plays the role of internal communication.

The employees of a company can be divided into regular employees, contractors and contractors. Both regular employees and contractors sign contracts directly with the company, but contractors do not enjoy some of the company's benefits, such as employee stock subscription plans, bonuses, departmental activities, and so on. Outsourcing is when the worker signs a contract with a third party (personnel agency), and then the third party sends the worker to the company to work. Outsourcing staff will not enjoy any benefits of the company.

Firing contractors is the latest round of layoffs on Twitter. Twitter has laid off half of its employees, or about 3700, since Elon Musk bought the company on October 28.

Mr Musk has told the rest of his Twitter staff that he has sold billions of dollars worth of shares in Tesla to "save" Twitter. It is not clear whether Musk will continue to sell Tesla shares to repay Twitter's debt. He also told Twitter employees that Twitter is likely to go bankrupt in an economic downturn. During Musk's tug-of-war with Twitter, advertisers fled or suspended spending on the platform.

Twitter and Musk have not commented.
