According to CTOnews.com on November 13, Huawei recently held the fourth African Broadband Forum on the sidelines of AfricaCom 2022. During the event, ATU African Telecommunication Union, African Union African Union and Huawei jointly issued the White Paper on IPv6 Development in Africa (referred to as the White Paper). As the first regional IPv6 white paper on the African continent, the white paper systematically analyzes the development of IPv6 in the African region and shares the IPv6 innovation practices of several top operators in Africa, aiming to provide guidance and reference for the technological innovation and development of IPv6 on the African continent, so as to accelerate the construction of network digital infrastructure in Africa and promote the development of digital economy in Africa.

IPv6 (Internet Protocol version 6) is the inevitable trend of the upgrading and evolution of the next generation Internet. The network digital infrastructure with IPv6 as the core connects data, application and computing power, and constructs the foundation of digital economy. Countries around the world are actively launching IPv6 development strategies and policies, and formulating clear development roadmaps and timetables to promote the scale deployment and industrial development of IPv6.

Mrs. Anderson Amlamba, Director of Management Information Systems of African Union African Union, pointed out that the importance of IPv6 has become a global consensus, and from the aspects of terminals, networks, applications, cloud platforms and other aspects, the industrial ecology of IPv6 has also matured. Africa also needs to speed up the development and deployment of IPv6, and the government needs to play a leading role, formulate strategic plans and relevant policies, and actively promote the construction and training of IPv6 organizations, industries, ecology, and talents.

With the rapid development of the Internet of things, industrial Internet and artificial intelligence, the shortage of IPv4 addresses is becoming more and more serious, and IPv4 has stopped its technological evolution since 2016. Due to its sufficient address, good expansibility and high security, IPv6 protocol has obvious advantages in dealing with new business challenges. CTOnews.com was informed that the report pointed out that as of October 2022, the global IPv6 deployment rate was close to 40%, but the development of IPv6 among countries was extremely uneven, especially in Africa, where the IPv6 deployment rate lagged far behind the global average. However, it is worth noting that some African countries have noticed the importance of IPv6 development and accelerated the deployment of IPv6. Mrs. Anderson Amlamba stressed that IPv6 must be treated as a matter of urgency, otherwise there is a risk of isolation from the world.

Mr. John OMO, Secretary General of the African Telecommunication Union of ATU, encourages everyone to understand the importance of IPv6, which is essential to improving the living standards of the African people. If the migration to IPv6 can be realized, it will open up more new opportunities for the Internet and have a more far-reaching impact on Africa.

IPv6 Enhanced (abbreviated as "IPE") is a technological innovation and integrated application based on IPv6. IPE makes use of the flexible expansibility of IPv6 messages to enhance the network programmability, certainty and intelligent operation and maintenance, so as to provide differentiated network experience and guarantee for digital applications and users in different industries.

The IPE innovation system is divided into three stages: the first stage is the network programming ability, which simplifies the network and the rapid distribution of services through SRv6; the second stage is the user experience guarantee through FlexE network slicing and IFIT current detection technology; and the third stage is the application-driven network APN6 to achieve application-aware network and achieve a high degree of autonomy.

Huawei operator BG network Marketing and solution mentioned that 5G and FTTS (Fiber to the Site) put forward new demands for IP network. IPv6 Enhanced is the most critical technology of IP network and will have a wide range of applications in Africa.

Huawei data communications pointed out that the IP bearer network is the basis of the digital transformation of Qianhang Baiye. Huawei IP carrier network, based on IPE technology, provides four key capabilities: Super Edge, cloud network fast line, converged backbone and digital map, to help African operators build IPv6 intelligent cloud network and enable digital transformation in Africa.
