Thanks to CTOnews.com netizens for their witty meow and zerodert clues delivery! CTOnews.com, Nov. 13 (Reuters)-Foxconn, an Apple supplier, plans to increase the number of employees at its iPhone plant in India by 53000 within two years, bringing the number of employees in southern India to 70,000, according to Reuters. Foxconn and Apple declined to comment.

Recent supply chain disruptions at Foxconn prompted Apple to lower its forecast for shipments of iPhone 14 Pro models this week, dampening sales prospects during the busy year-end holiday season.

Foxconn opened an Indian plant in 2019 and has been ramping up production, starting production of the iPhone 14 series this year. Foxconn is known to be interested in expanding the facility, but previously did not announce the scale or timetable of the planned expansion.

Foxconn Tamil Nadu will speed up plans to hire factories in India, an Indian government source said. In addition to iPhone, the plant also produces products for other global technology companies, but the new recruitment is mainly to meet the growing demand for iPhone production.

On October 27, India's national investment promotion agency said senior government officials had gone to meet with Hon Hai chairman Liu Yangwei to "discuss in detail Foxconn's new business and investment plans" and provide government support.

The state is in discussions with suppliers to address issues such as workers' housing facilities because it wants to expand, the official said.

Officials from Tamil Nadu, the electronics and car manufacturing hub, are also pushing Apple suppliers to expand their business to iPhone manufacturing components, not just assembly, two government sources added.

CTOnews.com has learned that India's iPhone is currently being assembled by at least three Apple global suppliers: Foxconn and Pegatron in Tamil Nadu and Witronix Wistron in nearby Karnataka.

Analysts at JPMorgan Chase predicted in September that Apple could produce 2/4 of the world's iPhone in India by 2025, and that 25 per cent of all Apple products, including the Mac, iPad, Apple Watch and AirPods, would be produced overseas by 2025, up from 5 per cent now.
