CTOnews.com November 13, according to CCTV news reports, Britain's landmark building "Big Ben"(Big Ben) plans to resume full operation this Sunday, in the past five years, Big Ben has carried out the most ambitious renovation project in history, costing 670 million yuan.

Big Ben's maintenance team tested the bell at 11 a.m. local time Friday and everything went smoothly, according to reports. Big Ben will strike at 11 a.m. this Sunday and resume its daily operation, striking every 15 minutes.

CTOnews.com learned that Big Ben, built in 1859, has experienced problems such as leakage and rust in recent years. Since 2017, repair work has been started at a cost of 80 million pounds (currently about 670 million yuan). After repair, not only has the dial changed from black to Prussian blue, but elevators and public facilities such as toilets have also been added inside Big Ben to maximize the convenience of tourists.

According to the Washington Post, the entire part of Big Ben weighed 25000 pounds (about 11.35 tons) and was dismantled and taken to the Cumbria Clock Company in the Lake District of England, where it was cleaned and refurbished with more than 1000 parts.

Big Ben is a nickname for the clock tower at the north end of the Palace of Westminster in London, England. The official name of the tower where Big Ben is located was Clock Tower, which was renamed Elizabeth Tower in 2012 to commemorate Elizabeth II's Diamond Jubilee.

Designed in neo-Gothic style by Augustus Putin, the tower was the largest and most accurate four-sided clock in the world when completed in 1859. The clock tower is 316 feet (96 meters) tall and has 334 steps from the ground to the clock tower. Its base is square and each side is 40 feet (12 meters) long. The dial of the clock is 22.5 feet (6.9 meters) in diameter, and the shield on the tower represents all four regions of the United Kingdom, with roses representing England, thistles representing Scotland, clover representing Northern Ireland and leeks representing Wales.

Big Ben is the largest of the five clocks in the Palace of Westminster Tower, weighing 13.5 long tons (13.7 tons;15.1 short tons) and is the largest clock in Britain. The tower rings 15, 30 and 45 minutes after the hour and before the hour bell rings. The clock uses its original Victoria mechanism, but can use an electric motor as a backup. The clock tower is a world-recognized symbol of British culture and one of the most prominent symbols of British and parliamentary democracy, and is often featured in films shot in London. Since 1970, the clock tower has been part of a Grade I listed building, and in 1987 it was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
