Beijing, Nov. 13 (Xinhua) after laying off tens of thousands of Meta employees, Mark Zuckerberg shared some inspiring thoughts at a staff meeting on Friday: at least we didn't make Twitter as bad as Elon Elon Musk.
Zuckerberg and Musk are never easy for corporate CEO to tell employees that they have lost their jobs. In total, Musk and Zuckerberg have laid off nearly 15000 employees in the past week or so.
Mr Musk laid off about 3700 employees through an unsigned email after he had many of them working for most of the previous weekend. Zuckerberg issued a signed memo to employees explaining his decision to eliminate 11000 jobs and being responsible for over-hiring during the company's "epidemic dividend" in the technology industry.
On Friday, Zuckerberg and other executives held a town hall meeting for remaining employees and answered their questions. During the question and answer session, an employee asked a question about Twitter layoffs, and Zuckerberg joined the discussion, according to people present.
He says it is important for different companies to deal with layoffs in different ways. He added that Musk had just taken over Twitter and clearly didn't have time to plan as thoughtfully as many other companies, such as Meta. 'If you don't think carefully about layoffs, there will be chaos,'he points out. At the same time, he admits that even if the company has thought it through, there are still many questions that do not have good answers.
In addition, at the staff meeting, an employee asked whether the remaining employees were facing further layoffs. Zuckerberg responded that although the company had no plans for further layoffs in the coming weeks, he could not "make any commitment", according to one of the attendees.
Meta is one of several technology companies that have begun mass layoffs in recent months. Earlier this year, Snap announced that it would cut 20 per cent of its workforce. Ride-hailing giant Lyft has just laid off 700 employees. Financial technology giant Stripe laid off 14% of its employees, or about 1000.
