Beijing, November 12 (Xinhua) Elon Musk (Elon Musk) has been wary of robots on Twitter for a long time. Not only does he think that some Twitter users are robots, but he even suspects that some Twitter employees are not real people.

Since Musk took the helm of Twitter, the company has laid off 3700 people, or about half of its workforce. In the process, Musk wanted to confirm that Twitter employees were "real people" and ordered a salary audit to confirm the situation before handing out pre-planned stock awards to employees, foreign media reported on Friday.

On October 28, the day after Mr Musk finalised the Twitter deal, he met with Twitter HR executives and said he wanted to lay off staff immediately. According to the plan, shares previously awarded to Twitter employees will be vested on November 1, a retention bonus that Twitter regularly pays to employees. A team within Twitter has built a model and found that firing employees before that could mean paying millions of dollars in legal fees and fines.

Mr Musk agreed to postpone the layoffs when he learned that the cost of immediate layoffs was high, according to people familiar with the matter. Before handing out the bonus, however, Mr Musk ordered a salary audit to ensure that Twitter employees were "real people" because he feared that some of the bonuses would be paid to "ghost employees" who were still on the register.

Musk instructed Robert Kaiden, Twitter's chief accounting officer, to conduct a salary audit. Kayden asked managers to confirm whether they knew certain employees and to prove that they were actually human. In the end, Twitter made a massive layoff on November 4.
