CTOnews.com, 11 / 11 / PRNewswire-FirstCall-Asianet /-- self-driving company Waymo announced that it will open its self-driving ride-hailing service to the public at the Phoenix City Center in the United States. Previously, the company's self-driving commercial service was only for trusted trial riders (trusted tester) program participants.

For Waymo, the expansion of its service base in Phoenix is an important sign of accelerating commercialization. Waymo just got autopilot deployment permission from the California Motor vehicle Administration to charge for self-driving services such as distribution in San Francisco.

CTOnews.com learned that Waymo is a company that develops self-driving cars and is another subsidiary of Google's parent company, Alphabet.

Waymo started as a self-driving car program launched by Google in January 2009, and then became independent by Google and became a subsidiary of Alphabet in December 2016. It will be launched to the market in October 2020.

Waymo, which has been around for 12 years, launched a ride-hailing service in Phoenix in 2018, but progress has been slow outside the East Valley area. In the early years, Waymo boasted frequently. For example, in 2017, Kravsik, a former CEO of Waymo, said: "the real self-driving car is coming, not in 2020, but today."
