According to news in the morning of November 11, Beijing time, the US Federal Trade Commission (FTC) said on Thursday local time that it was following Twitter "with deep concern". As Twitter's heads of security, privacy and compliance leave, the company may be at risk of violating regulatory directives.

Lea Kissner, Twitter's chief security officer, tweeted on Thursday that she had left. In addition, Damien Kieran, Twitter's chief privacy officer, and Marianne Forgarty, chief compliance officer, have also resigned, according to internal sources.

Billionaire Elon Musk bought Twitter for $44 billion on October 27 and quickly moved to clean up the interior. Last week, he announced plans to cut jobs by half, promising to eliminate fake accounts and charging users of the Twitter Blue Blue V certification service a fee of $8 a month.

"We are closely watching the latest changes on Twitter with deep concern," said Douglas Farrar, head of public affairs at FTC. "No chief executive or company is above the law and the company must abide by the decree we asked for. The revised consent order provides us with a new tool to ensure compliance and we are prepared to use it."

In May, Twitter agreed to pay $150 million to settle FTC's allegations. FTC accused Twitter of misusing private information such as phone numbers to deliver accurate ads to users. Previously, Twitter told users that the information was collected only for security reasons.

A lawyer for the Twitter privacy team mentioned the departure of the executives in an email posted on Twitter's Slack messaging system on Thursday.

In the email, the lawyer mentioned that Alex Spiro, the legal director of Twitter, said that Musk was willing to take "huge risks" for Twitter. "Musk sent the rocket into space, he will not be afraid of FTC."

Twitter did not respond to FTC's warnings, emails from lawyers or the departures of the executives. Spiro himself did not respond.

Since completing the acquisition, Mr Musk has fired former chief executive Parag Agrawal and other executives. Twitter's head of advertising and marketing also left soon afterwards. This adds to concerns among regulators that Twitter does not have enough people to monitor whether the company still complies with compliance requirements.

Musk told advertisers via Twitter Spaces on Wednesday that his goal is to turn Twitter into a force for truth and stop fake accounts. He tried to use this phrase to appease advertisers' unease about the changes in the Twitter platform.

But Mr Musk's promises may not be enough. Restaurant chain Chipotle Mexican Grill said on Thursday that it had withdrawn paid content and its own content on Twitter while "better understanding where the platform will go under the new management". At the same time, other brands, such as General Motors, have suspended ads on Twitter because of fears that Mr Musk will relax content censorship rules on the platform.

In addition, Musk sent his first email to Twitter employees on Thursday, saying that the company no longer allows telecommuting and that employees need to work in the office for at least 40 hours a week. In addition, he wants to see paid accounts contribute half of Twitter's revenue.

On Thursday, Musk also tweeted: "there are too many blue V verification tags left over in the past, so we have no choice but to clean them up in the next few months."
