It is said that the two chips will bring stronger performance and battery life to the entry-level Chromebook. It is designed to allow consumers to seamlessly browse, play cloud games, stream and use Google Play applications on laptops without worrying about battery life.

CTOnews.com learned that the Kompanio 520s and 528s are essentially upgrades to the existing Kompanio 500 SoC. Both new chipsets offer eight-core CPU, including two Cortex-A76 large cores and six A55 cores, bringing 2GHz and 2.2GHz dominant frequencies.

In addition, they are equipped with upgraded dual-core GPU and optimized for power consumption to provide longer battery life.

The two chips also bring a number of new features, such as support for 32MP shooting, enhanced by MediaTek's hardware graphics engine, and better low-light shooting, as well as support for VP9 decoding and H.265 coding, resulting in a 2x performance improvement in this respect. In addition, there is an ultra-low power HiFi-5 DSP to process audio data.

These chips can also support dual-screen display and support 60Hz FHD (1920 x 1080) external displays. MediaTek says users can also connect to projectors or smart TVs according to their preferences.

In addition, the Kompanio 520s and 528s also include MediaTek's Filogic Wi-Fi 6 solution, which supports 3733Mbps's LPDDR4x RAM and eMMC 5.1 storage.
