CTOnews.com, 11 / 11 / PRNewswire-FirstCall-Asianet /-- Amazon is developing a better delivery drone, and the new MK30 drone, which will be operational in 2024, is designed to be quieter, has a longer range, and can fly in high temperatures and light rain.

The new drones have the same functions and goals as their predecessors: fly vertically to hundreds of feet, maneuver and land on their own, and be able to carry packages weighing up to 5 pounds (about 2270 grams). The MK30 will be lighter and smaller than the current hexagonal MK27-2 drone and will pass a rigorous assessment by national aerospace agencies such as the Federal Aviation Administration to prove its safety and reliability.

CTOnews.com has learned that Amazon's equipment division is facing multibillion-dollar operating losses and that the company is looking for ways to cut costs, possibly including slowing the development of new features of its popular Alexa artificial intelligence assistant.
