CTOnews.com, Nov. 10, according to TheElec, the silicon-based OLED (OLEDoS) production plan invested by LG Display is facing delays.

The company had expected to place an order for production equipment sometime in the third quarter. But sources say LG Display has not yet been implemented and a decision is unlikely to be made before December.

As its name implies, OLEDoS is the deposition of OLED on a silicon substrate. This makes the panel small in size but with ultra-high definition resolution.

CTOnews.com has learned that these products will be used in hybrid reality (MR) and virtual reality (VR) devices. Apple, LG Display's most important customer, has asked the South Korean display panel maker to develop 3500 PPI OLEDoS.

Sources say the delay in LG Display may be caused by concerns about when hybrid real markets will open.

The company also needs as much as 200 billion won to make OLEDoS production equipment. Equipment is required for OLED deposition, color filter formation and film packaging. LG Display may purchase silicon substrates from SK Hynix.

Sources said that there were differences of opinion between LG Corporation and LG Display, the holding company of the LG Group, on how to carry out the purchase of 200 billion won.

Other companies such as potential customers Apple and Meta don't even have hybrid real-world devices, so it's hard to measure the demand for them.

As of the third quarter, LG Display also recorded a cumulative operating loss of 1 trillion won (about 5.3 billion yuan).
