LG Electronics applied to the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) to register the "PETAVERSE" trademark. PETAVERSE is a compound word of pets and metaverse, and this combination seems to be to keep virtual pets in the virtual world.

LG Electronics explained in its trademark application that PETAVERSE is a platform software that provides a user experience related to pets in virtual reality. Users can communicate with each other in the virtual community, enjoy pet-related games and videos, or share how to keep pets.

According to reports, industry insiders believe that LG Electronics is trying to seize the trademark in the process of exploring new business opportunities in the virtual pet game "Nintendo" in ▲ Nintendo 3DS. They say that in the medium to long term, LG Electronics has the possibility to enter the virtual pet market.

CTOnews.com learned that Samsung Electronics ranked first with 262 applications and LG Electronics ranked third with 66 applications in South Korea's Metaverse-related patent applications between 2012 and 2021, according to the Korea intellectual property Office. The two South Korean technology giants lead the world in the field of high-end home appliances.

According to the report, analysts said that based on its competitive information and communication (IT) technology, TV sees the metacosmos market as a new growth driver, so Samsung and LG Electronics are very concerned about this area.
