CTOnews.com, November 10, according to a report from the Digitimes Electronic Times, Arm processor architecture is rapidly entering the notebook market and will occupy 13.9% of the market share in 2023.

That may not sound like much, but it is nearly tenfold higher than it was in 2020. CTOnews.com learned that laptops based on Arm chips accounted for only 1.4 per cent of the market at the time.

Analysts pointed out that this is a major trend in the notebook industry after the epidemic, and Intel's dominant position in the notebook market share is continuing to be eroded.

DigiTimes mentioned that the laptop market fell by 22.8% year-on-year in 2022, with shipments of 190 million units, but it is expected to be relatively stable in 2023, with shipments changing to a single-digit percentage. The industry consensus points to a balance point of around 200 million units per year.

Apple entered the Arm-based laptop market with the M1 MacBook at the end of 2020 and became popular as soon as it was launched.

In addition to Apple, Qualcomm also improved the Arm-based Windows Snapdragon PC processor, which later gained popularity. DigiTimes also mentioned that Arm-based Chromebook is becoming more attractive-but to a lesser extent.

At the same time, Intel's market dominance seems to be wavering in the face of challenges from many directions.

In addition to the Arm processor is expected to break x86 hegemony, Intel peer AMD has also been charging in this new era, and these generations of AMD Auron processors seem to be particularly competitive in the notebook computer field, especially in stable performance while ensuring good battery life, building confidence in OEM and consumers.

According to Digitimes, Intel's notebook market share peaked at 82.2 per cent in 2016 (AMD's market share was 17.8 per cent in the same year), but the former had a 63.5 per cent market share in the second quarter of 2022, while AMD had a 36.4 per cent share and strengthened its position.
