TSMC said the Arizona fab, currently under construction, contains a portion of the building that could be used for the Phase II plant to improve cost effectiveness by leveraging resources built simultaneously in Phase I. The building allows the company to maintain flexibility for future expansion.

CTOnews.com learned that in May 2020, TSMC announced that it would invest $12 billion in a new fab in Arizona. Construction of the plant commenced in June 2021 and is expected to commence in 2024.

The Wall Street Journal reported earlier today that people familiar with the matter said TSMC plans to announce in the next few months that it will build a cutting-edge semiconductor factory north of Phoenix, Arizona, adjacent to another chip factory announced by the company in 2020.
