According to the official account of Chemistry of Peking University, Mr. Tang Youqi, a famous Chinese chemist, educator, academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, one of the founders of Chinese crystal and structural chemistry and professor of the School of Chemistry and Molecular Engineering of Peking University, died of illness at 13:34 on November 8, 2022 in the third Hospital of Peking University.

According to public data, Tang Youqi was born in Nanhui, Jiangsu Province in 1920 (now in the Pudong New area of Shanghai), graduated from Tongji University in 1942, and was elected as a member of the Department of the Chinese Academy of Sciences in 1980. Tang Youqi is mainly engaged in the research of crystal phase structure and crystal chemistry, crystal structure and life process chemistry of biological macromolecules, surface, structure and molecular engineering of functional systems.

Tang Youqi was the director of the Institute of physical Chemistry of Peking University in 1984 and the director of the State key Laboratory of Molecular dynamic and steady-State structural Chemistry in Beijing in 1991. He initiated the study of crystal chemistry in China, made important contributions to the determination of the crystal structure of insulin and the structure of many important systems such as oxide high temperature superconductors, and put forward the theory of spontaneous monolayer dispersion. Long-term systematic research was carried out with the collaborators, and the spontaneous monolayer dispersion principle revealed plays an important guiding role in the development of functional systems such as high efficiency catalysts and adsorbents. It has established the discipline of molecular engineering, promoted the development of the interdisciplinary discipline of chemistry and biology in China, and has won two second prize of national natural science, one second prize of national technological invention, one third prize of national natural science, and 4 first prize of scientific and technological progress of the State Education Commission.
