First of all, when we open SSMS, we can see that although we have deleted the application of SharePoint Server 2016, the database file has only been uninstalled, but has not been deleted.

At this time, you can delete it manually as needed.

After clicking OK directly, the database file will be deleted.

If you want to delete the entire SQL Server 2016 application, it's not difficult. But you should pay attention to the following points.

Before removing the SQL Server component from a computer with the minimum required amount of physical memory, make sure that you have a page file of sufficient size. The page file size must be equal to twice the amount of physical memory. Insufficient virtual memory can prevent SQL Server from being completely deleted.

If there is more than one instance of SQL Server, SQL Server Browser is automatically uninstalled after the last instance of SQL Server 2016 is deleted.

If you want to uninstall all components of SQL Server 2016, you must manually uninstall Browser components from programs and Features in SQL Server Control Panel.

And before we uninstall, it is recommended to follow the following steps.

1. Back up the data. (if necessary)

two。 Stop all SQL Server related services. Because active connections to these services may prevent the uninstall process from completing successfully

3. Delete the local SQL security group.

4. Delete using an account with appropriate permissions. Log in to the server using a SQL Server service account or an account with equivalent privileges. For example, you can log in to the server using a member account of the local Administrators group.

Next, open the programs and features in the Control Panel to uninstall SQL Server 2016.

Select SQL Server 2016 and click the uninstall / modify button

Select Remove.

On the Select instance page, use the drop-down box to specify the SQL Server instance to delete, or specify options that correspond to removing only SQL Server sharing features and administrative tools. To continue, click next.

Select the SQL feature to be removed. Here, because we are uninstalling safely, we select all, and then click next.

After passing the test of the functional rules, click the Remove button directly to delete.

Start officially uninstalling SQL Server 2016
