Thanks to CTOnews.com netizens Wu Yanzu in South China for the delivery of clues! CTOnews.com, November 9 (Xinhua) earlier this year, the ChromeOS version of Steam started Alpha testing, and users need ChromeOS Dev to experience gaming services. In addition, it only runs on a small number of devices. Recently, Steam for ChromeOS has entered the Beta testing phase, and more device users will be able to use it because it is much more stable. However, Steam for ChromeOS still does not support any Samsung Chromebook.

Initially, Steam for ChromeOS was only available with 11th-generation Intel Core i5 or Core i7 processors and 8GB or higher memory devices. But Samsung Chromebook devices do not meet this requirement. CTOnews.com learned that with the introduction of Beta beta, the minimum hardware requirements for running Steam have been reduced. Users can now run it on devices with Core i3 / Ryzen 3 processors. This means that Samsung Galaxy Chromebook and Galaxy Chromebook 2 meet the requirements for running Steam. But there is still no mention of any Samsung Chromebook in the list of supported devices.

The reason why Samsung Chromebook devices are not supported is still unknown. Maybe Google and valve need to test Steam on each Chromebook before adding it to the list of supported devices. Samsung and other brands of Chromebook are expected to be added to the list of supported devices soon. The Steam Beta beta already supports the AMD Ryzen 5000 C-Series and the 12th generation Intel processor devices. The following is a list of devices mentioned on the official website.

Acer Chromebook 514 (CB514-1W)

Acer Chromebook 515 (CB515-1W)

Acer Chromebook 516 GE

Acer Chromebook Spin 514 (CP514-3H, CP514-3HH, CP514-3WH)

Acer Chromebook Spin 713 (CP713-3W)

Acer Chromebook Spin 714 (CP714-1WN)

Acer Chromebook Vero 514

Asus Chromebook CX9 (CX9400)

Asus Chromebook Flip CX5 (CX5500)

Asus Chromebook Flip CX5 (CX5601)

Asustek Chromebook Vibe CX55 Flip

Framework Laptop Chromebook Edition

HP Elite c640 14 inch G3 Chromebook

HP Elite c645 G2 Chromebook

HP Elite Dragonfly Chromebook

HP Pro c640 G2 Chromebook

IdeaPad Gaming Chromebook 16

Lenovo 5i-14 Chromebook

Lenovo Flex 5i Chromebook 14

Lenovo ThinkPad C14

If you are using any of the above Chromebook, you can experience Steam by switching to the Beta channel. You also need to make sure that you are running 108.0.5359.24 or newer ChromeOS. In order to be able to install Steam, the user needs to enter chrome://flags/#enable-borealis in the browser and enable this feature. Once this is done, simply search the initiator for Steam to begin the installation process.

The Steam Beta beta of ChromeOS also brings some performance improvements. First of all, VulKan 1.3 and DirectX12 are now supported, which improves the way shaders are stored and persisted, according to Google. The company also said it had improved "the zoom system, which now supports high-performance playing more games on QHD and UHD monitors, and sees the performance benefits of lower in-game resolution on all monitors."

When playing the game full screen, users will now receive a low power notification so that they can know when to run out of power. In addition, the CPU footprint in VulKan and DirectX games has been reduced to extend battery life. Finally, when the game is downloaded in the background, Chromebook will no longer sleep. Google has also added 50 games to its list of Steam recommended games on ChromeOS.
