Shulou(Shulou.com)11/24 Report--
Beijing, Nov. 7 (Xinhua) although Apple has been talking about how private your iPhone is, the company has collected a lot of data about you, according to a new report from independent researchers. "it's shocking for a company like Apple to know how much detail it knows about you," said researcher Musk.
According to the report, iPhone does have a privacy setting that can turn off this tracking. However, even when you turn off tracking, Apple collects extremely detailed information about you through its own app, which clearly contradicts Apple's own description of how privacy protection works.
Apple CEO Cook iPhone Analytics setting has made a clear commitment that if it is turned off, Apple says it will "completely disable the sharing of device analytics".
However, Tommy Misk and Tarar Haji Buckley, two application developers and security researchers at Misco Software, studied data collected by Apple's iPhone app-app store, Apple Music, Apple TV, books and stocks.
They found that analytics controls and other privacy settings had no significant effect on Apple's data collection-"tracking is the same whether iPhone analytics is turned on or off."
The researchers say that health and wallet apps, for example, do not transmit any analytical data, regardless of whether iPhone analytics is turned on or off, while Apple Music, Apple TV, Books, iTunes Store and Stocks can. The researchers found that most apps that send analysis data share a consistent ID number, which will allow Apple to track your activities through its services.
For example, the "stocks" app sends Apple a list of stocks you follow, the name of the stock you browse or search for, the point in time you search, and a record of any news articles you see in the app. The information is sent to a web site called analytics. This transmission is separate from the iCloud communication required to synchronize data across devices. However, unlike other applications, Stocks sends a different ID number and the device information is far less detailed.
"it's not a situation where all apps are tracking me," Musk said. He and his research partners have conducted similar tests on Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge analysis in the past. In both applications, data is not sent when the profiling settings are turned off, Mr. Musk said.
Apple's act of keeping a close eye on users like this will infuriate some people, regardless of whether the concerns are important or not. For example, in App Store, when you browse apps related to mental health, addiction, and sexual orientation, you may find something you don't want to send to the company server.
It's not surprising that Apple collects analytical information, which is explicitly stated in its privacy policy, and almost all applications and devices you use are likely to use your data for analysis. But Mr. Musk said he was shocked by the level of detail. "I hope companies like Apple that believe that privacy is a fundamental human right can collect more general analytical data," Mr. Musk said.
