CTOnews.com, November 9, Tesla applied to the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration for a recall of 40,000 vehicles, mainly related to some problems with electronically assisted steering EPAS on Tesla's Model S and Model X models from 2017 to 2021. Tesla said that the problem will be solved through OTA updates.

According to documents released by NHTSA, when you drive these models on rough roads or hit potholes, the power steering assist system may lose its function. Tesla identified 314 alerts about the problem for U. S. cars that may be related to the recall.

CTOnews.com learned that Tesla said that more than 97 per cent of the recalled vehicles had completed the latest firmware update. "if you have installed 2022.36.5 or higher firmware, no further action is required."

Due to the arrival of New Energy Intelligent Network connected cars, most models can solve the problems encountered by vehicles through OTA updates, but NHTSA requires Tesla to issue a "recall" notice when using OTA software updates to solve problems that should have been resolved through recall, so the term "recall" may be misleading to users.

In September, Elon Musk, chief executive of Tesla, even pointed this out, calling the term "outdated and inaccurate". Of course, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology also uses the word "recall".
