CTOnews.com With the release of Visual Studio 2022 17.4 (GA), Microsoft says it now provides support for Arm64 as Windows 11 friendly features, the first version of Visual Studio to fully support Arm64 natively.

Microsoft says this iteration of Visual Studio provides a native Arm64 experience,"eliminating the need for simulation in most developer workflows."

CTOnews.com learned that Microsoft announced the launch of Visual Studio with Arm64 support at Build 2022, thus pushing Windows to be more complete on ARM. Later, Microsoft released a preview version this summer.

In addition to software, Microsoft has also released a mini computer called Project Volterra, named Windows Dev Kit 2023, which when combined brings developers a complete development kit that allows developers to develop and test Arm64 Windows applications on a single device without having to buy a more expensive Snapdragon laptop.

Microsoft said:

"We are excited to announce the first Visual Studio to fully support Arm64, which will run natively, allowing Arm64 applications to be built and debugged on Arm-based processors. "

"17.4 GA provides Visual Studio with a native Arm64 experience, eliminating the need for simulation from most developers 'work. While the improved x64 simulator helps simulate the speed and performance of applications on Arm devices, we know the best Arm development experience will be powered by tools that run natively on Arm64. "

"We are building a comprehensive end-to-end Arm native developer toolchain that will deliver a fast, familiar and efficient hosted and native developer experience for Arm-based processors. "

Based on feedback from the developer community, this release includes support for the following workloads:

.NET desktop development

Desktop development with C++

NET and web development

Universal Windows Platform development

Visual Studio extension development

Game development with C++

Node.js development

For developers, there's nothing special about developing new Arm64 apps or converting older x86 apps, you just need to install the program detection system architecture when installing Visual Studio 2022 17.4, and then download and install the Arm64 version of Visual Studio running on Arm64 devices.
