CTOnews.com, Nov. 8, according to the Nikkei News, Sony will eliminate plastic packaging in mobile phones and headphones from next year.
▲ Sony headphones without plastic packaging it is reported that Sony will remove plastic packaging for small products weighing 1 kilogram or less, such as smartphones, cameras and audio accessories, starting in fiscal year 2023. This will cover 40 per cent of Sony's shipments in fiscal year 2021.
CTOnews.com has learned that Sony is trying not to use plastic packaging in its newly designed small products in order to achieve a zero environmental footprint by 2050. Sony Xperia PRO-I is the first Xperia smartphone to achieve zero plastic packaging.
In addition, Sony is changing the packaging of existing headset models from plastic to paper, and the outer packaging of the MDR- EX15AP has been redesigned to reduce the total amount of plastic from about 96 per cent to less than 5 per cent.
Sony also recently unveiled a new LinkBuds S headset made of recycled water bottle material, named "Earth Blue", which has a unique appearance, resembles cream blue and embellished with light-colored swirls, like made of marble.
