CTOnews.com, November 8, according to thepaper.cn, in a public speech to teachers, students and the public of Peking University this morning, Professor Zhang Yitang, a Chinese-American mathematician and professor at the University of California, Santa Barbara, said that in essence, he has proved the Landau-Siegel Zero conjecture.
Landau-Siegel Zero is defined as a counterexample of the generalized Riemann conjecture. The conjecture that "Landau-Siegel zero" does not exist is called Landau-Siegel zero conjecture. In other words, Zhang Yitang's latest paper shows that in a certain range, Landau-Siegel zero does not exist. In this case, Landau-Siegel's zero conjecture is correct or true.
Zhang Yitang also said that just like his previous research on the twin prime number conjecture, the results can be improved. The latest research breakthrough will have many applications and bring a lot of theorems.
CTOnews.com learned that Zhang Yitang's new 111page paper, discrete average estimation and Landau-Siegel Zero (Discrete mean estimates and the Landau-Siegel zero), was officially launched on the preprint website arxiv on November 7th.
Born in Shanghai in 1955, Zhang Yitang is a native of Pinghu City, Zhejiang Province. He is a mathematician of Chinese origin, an academician of Academia Sinica in Taiwan, and a tenured professor in the Department of Mathematics at the University of California, Santa Barbara.
In May 2013, Zhang Yitang made a breakthrough in the study of twin primes. He proved a weakening form of the conjecture of twin primes. In the latest research, without relying on unproved inferences, Zhang Yitang found that there are infinitely many pairs of primes with a difference of less than 70 million. Thus, it has taken a revolutionary step on the road of twin prime conjecture, a famous problem that mathematicians have not been able to promote before.
On April 17, 2013, Zhang Yitang published the bounded interval between prime numbers in the Annals of Mathematics, which proved that there are infinitely many gaps between prime numbers less than 70 million, thus making an important breakthrough in the number theory of twin prime conjecture.
