According to the Nanjing Municipal Bureau of Planning and Resources, the Nanjing Information and Communication Infrastructure layout Plan has been compiled and completed. It is mentioned in the Plan that 4188 new 5G macro base stations will be built in the city during the 14th five-year Plan period to achieve full coverage of the 5G network in urban areas and key areas.

According to statistics, there were 17381 4G and 5G outdoor macro base stations in Nanjing, of which 9599 were 5G macro base stations, mainly distributed in Jiangbei New main City, Jiangnan main City and three sub-cities, according to the Nanjing Radio and Television News Center.

From the user side, as of the end of May this year, Nanjing had 13.28 million mobile phone subscribers, of which 3.89 million were 5G subscribers, accounting for 29%. It is predicted that the number of mobile phone users will increase to 14.8019 million by 2025 and 19.2387 million by 2035.

To this end, the "Plan" proposes to co-ordinate the layout and construction of communications infrastructure, combined with the time sequence of urban construction, to make up for the gaps in key regional service facilities such as Jiangbei New area, Qiaolin, and Longpao in the near future. According to the communication service business forecast and network development demand in 2035, and combined with the Nanjing Land and Space Master Plan (2021-2035), it is planned to set up 29670 base stations, build 12289, and retain 17381 at present.

In addition, Nanjing will speed up the deep coverage of 5G networks in rural areas to meet the needs of agriculture-related applications for 5G networks, CTOnews.com learned. The Plan proposes to focus on supporting the construction of information and communication infrastructure in rural areas, comprehensively carry out broadband network construction and speed-up projects, and increase the construction of new-generation mobile communication infrastructure in rural areas to achieve full coverage of wireless networks. With the development of urban and rural areas, Nanjing will be built into a central city of an important information and communications hub in the country.
