Shulou(Shulou.com)11/24 Report--
CTOnews.com, Nov. 7, Counterpoint Research released a quarterly analysis of India's smartphone market. Figures for the third quarter of 2022 showed that overall sales fell 11% to 45 million units. This was India's first annual decline between July and September, mainly due to pent-up demand in the third quarter of 2022 and a decline in demand due to global macroeconomic conditions in the second quarter of 2022.
CTOnews.com learned that Xiaomi remained at the top of the list during the three-month period, but Samsung managed to close the gap because the South Korean company was one of the few companies to achieve annual growth. Apple reached its highest-ever share in India, with 5% of the iPhone 13 becoming the best-selling model in the third quarter.
Prachir Singh, a senior research analyst at Counterpoint, said the market withdrew with high inventories in the second quarter of 2022, which led to a lack of demand. Entry-level and budget-level markets are the most affected, and "adverse macroeconomic conditions" will continue in the fourth quarter.
According to the report, 32% of all smartphones support 5G. The share of 5G phones is expected to grow even more, as India has begun the promotion of 5G and users are eager to upgrade their devices.
Sales of feature phones fell 24%, bringing the total decline in mobile phone shipments to 15% year-on-year. The current economic situation mainly affects low-income families, or "users at the bottom of the pyramid", as Counterpoint puts it. The leader of feature phones has been itel for the third year in a row, and that remains unchanged in the third quarter of 2022.
Xiaomi's lead has declined, mainly due to low demand for mid-range and entry-level phones. Samsung managed to narrow its lead with attractive offers from Galaxy M and Galaxy F smartphones, while vivo ranked third with strong sales of V-series and iQOO sub-brands.
If all brands are grouped together, transmissions may have climbed to fifth place. The conglomerate, which owns itel, Infinix and Tecno, recorded 12 per cent of sales, driven by strong demand for Tecno Pop 5 LTE and Spark Go 2022, which sell for less than 8000 Indian rupees.
