CTOnews.com Science Popularization: Fengyun series of satellites are Chinese meteorological satellites, which have been listed by the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) in the global operational application meteorological satellite series. The latest one is the Fengyun 3e satellite (05 satellite) launched on July 5 last year.

Fengyun series satellites include geostationary orbit Fengyun II F, G, H, Fengyun 4 An and B, and sun synchronous orbit Fengyun 3 A, C, D, E 9 satellites in orbit. There are three fixed-point positions for China geostationary meteorological satellites: 105 °E, 86.5 °E and 123.5 °E, of which 105 °E is the fixed-point position of operational satellites, and the other two positions are generally used for preparing sub-satellites or preparing obsolete satellites.

After more than 50 years of development, China has successfully launched a total of 19 Fengyun satellites of two generations from Fengyun 1 to Fengyun 4. It is expected that by 2035, the Fengyun 5 satellite series will fully replace and expand the current in-service Fengyun 3 satellite series.

As an integrated Leo meteorological satellite observation system in China's third generation Leo meteorological satellite system, Fengyun 5 satellite will greatly improve the accuracy and stability of the detection of large temperature wet profile, precipitation, wind field, cloud and radiation, aerosol and atmospheric composition on the basis of Fengyun 3 satellite, so as to meet the high precision requirements of climate observation, and improve the emergency monitoring capability of meteorology and its derived disasters. Reach the international leading level.

Wang Wei, deputy director of the 509th Institute of the eighth Academy of China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation, said that the Fengyun 5 satellite will break through the platform technology of large load bearing, high stability, long life and networking, the new payload technology of high precision, high resolution and long-term stability, as well as the ground application technology of high efficiency, big data and intelligence, combined with the high orbit meteorological satellite system, a complete meteorological satellite system will be formed through satellite interconnection, interworking and interaction in the system. The development of single-satellite observation to satellite networking and systematic comprehensive observation can be realized to meet the needs of high-time acquisition of global data, real-time generation of meteorological emergency products and broadcast distribution.
