CTOnews.com, Nov. 7 (Xinhua)-- Samsung Electronics announced that its network equipment subsidiary Samsung Networks has achieved the highest average download speed of 1.75Gbps at a distance of 10 kilometers using "mmWave 5G" network equipment.

According to reports, the company cooperated with NBN of Australia in a recent field test, using Samsung's second-generation 5G modem chip 28GHz Compact Macro devices and third-party 5G mmWave client equipment (CPE) to achieve fixed wireless access (FWA).

CTOnews.com learned that in this experiment, the highest download speed can reach 2.75Gbps, and the average upload speed is 61.5Mbps. The 5G device integrates base stations, radios and antennas, and Samsung says it already has network operators in Japan, South Korea and the United States.

Samsung's beamforming technology allows different operators to aggregate the mmWave 5G band, resulting in higher download and upload speeds. The company said the test used eight component carriers (8CC), which means it used 800MHz's mmWave spectrum aggregation.

NBN will use a total of A $750 million, including A $480 million from the Australian government, to expand its FWA network coverage by 50 per cent, thereby improving Australia's mmWave 5G network.

Samsung said the new results prove that mmWave 5G is equally applicable to densely populated urban and remote rural areas, which will narrow the communication gap between urban and rural areas.
