Beijing, Nov. 7 (Xinhua) after Elon Elon Musk bought Twitter for $44 billion, the company laid off about half of its employees on Friday. But now Twitter is contacting dozens of laid-off employees to ask them to return to work.

Some employees who were asked to return to the company were mistakenly fired, according to two people familiar with the matter. Others were fired first, but management then realized that their work and experience might be necessary to develop the new features that Musk envisioned.

Last week, Twitter cut nearly 3700 jobs via email, a way to cut costs after the company was acquired by Mr Musk, which was completed at the end of October. Many employees have learned that they have lost their jobs because they have suddenly been suspended from accessing the company's systems, such as email and Slack. Now, Twitter is asking employees to go back to work, which shows how hasty and chaotic the layoff process is.

Twitter has not commented.
