CTOnews.com, Nov. 7-Dell Australia has been charged with misleading consumers on suspicion of misleading consumers about the price of additional monitors, according to the Australian Fair Competition and Consumer Commission ACCC website.

ACCC has filed a federal court lawsuit against Dell Australia Pty Limited (Dell Australia), accusing it of making false or misleading statements about the price of monitors that consumers may add when buying Dell computers, the notice said.

It is said that from at least August 2019 to December 16, 2021, Dell Australia made false or misleading statements on its website about the price of monitors and the potential savings in purchasing monitors with computers.

When consumers choose which Dell desktops and laptops to buy on Dell's website, they will be given the option to add a monitor during the checkout process. Generally speaking, the original price of the monitor will be marked with a line, and then a discount price will be displayed. However, most of the time, the monitor is not sold at a "delete line" price, and in some cases, the discounted price displayed is more expensive than buying a monitor alone, ACCC said.

"We accuse Dell Australia of making false, misleading or deceptive statements on its website to induce consumers to add monitors when buying computers to display false or misleading discounts," said Liza Carver, an ACCC commissioner.
