Thanks to CTOnews.com netizen OC_Formula for the clue delivery! CTOnews.com, Nov. 7, recently, a group of netizens discussed the issue of Intel's dazzling Arc graphics card. For example, the open source Linux driver developed by Intel for Arc Graphics does not work on POWER, and then another interesting question was thrown out.

Richard Hughes, lead developer of LVFS / Fwupd, pointed out that updating GSC firmware for Arc graphics cards currently requires Intel Management Engine (ME) functionality, which is equivalent to limiting the running environment, and you have to update the firmware on Intel CPU-based platforms.

For now, at least, Intel can only support updating their graphics system controller (GSC) firmware through Intel ME. As a result, old Intel systems or non-Intel systems without HECI-over-MEI, such as AMD or AArch64 / POWER / RISC-V systems, can only be plug and play and cannot be updated.

CTOnews.com learned that Intel later responded that the AMD platform would also support firmware updates in the future, but we don't have any more details yet, considering announcements such as firmware update plug-ins written by Fwupd and Intel.
