The construction of the newly-built Lanzhou-Zhang No. 3 and No. 4 railway is divided into two sections: the Lanzhou-Wuwei section and the Wuwei-Zhangye section, of which the construction of the Lanwu section began in June 2019, and the Wuzhang section has now entered the preliminary preparatory stage of the project. The new line in Lanwu section is 174.2 kilometers long and has a design speed of 250km per hour. It is drawn from Zhongchuan Airport Station, passing through Yongdeng West, Tianzhu West, Heisongyi and Gulangbei stations, and finally to Wuwei East Station.

CTOnews.com learned that the new Wushaoling Tunnel is a controlled project of Lanzhang Line 3 and Line 4. It adopts a double-track tunnel design and is basically parallel to the existing Wushaoling extra-long tunnel on Lanxin Railway. With a total length of 17.1 km, it is the longest extra-long tunnel on the whole line.

Wushaoling is located at the southeast end of Lenglongling, the northern branch of the Qilian Mountains, at the intersection of the Loess Plateau, the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau and the Inner Mongolia Plateau. It is the gateway and throat of the Hexi Corridor, the natural pass of the ancient Silk Road and the westernmost end of the East Asian monsoon.

The average elevation of Wushaoling is 3000 meters above sea level, the main peak is 3562 meters above sea level, and the average annual temperature is-2.2 ℃. The construction time in winter is as long as 7 months, with high cold and hypoxia, thin air, large temperature difference between day and night, fragile ecological environment, complex geological and hydrological conditions, and difficult construction.

Lanzhang third and fourth line railway is a major project of the national "medium-and long-term railway network planning".
