Shulou(Shulou.com)11/24 Report--

Thanks to CTOnews.com netizen OC_Formula for the clue delivery! CTOnews.com, Nov. 6, Intel revealed the functions of its software-defined chip (SDSi) for its next generation Xeon scalable processors, as well as the official brand name of the technology.

The Intel processor SDSi, officially known as "Intel On Demand", allows system administrators to pay an additional fee to enable a dedicated accelerator integrated into Intel's fourth-generation Xeon scalable processor Sapphire Rapids by paying to unlock the processor's additional functionality.

According to Phoronix, Intel released an update to the SDSi patch combined with Linux 5.18 this week, revealing more details about this feature. According to reports, Intel On Demand will support the following features for a fee:

Discover what features actually exist on a particular CPU

Let the administrator activate them

Enables administrators to evaluate how often this feature is used

It is not clear which features Intel will allow for "in-house purchase". But Intel's Sapphire Rapids processors have several specific acceleration technologies, including Advanced Matrix extension (AMX), dynamic load Balancer (DLB), Intel data flow Accelerator (DSA), Intel memory Analysis Accelerator (IAA), and Intel QuickAssist Technology (QAT) for accelerating specific workloads.

Intel On Demand can access interfaces in CPU to allow chip functionality with authentication key certificates (AKC) and capability activation payload (CAP) licenses.

CTOnews.com learned that after numerous delays, Intel's fourth-generation Xeon scalable processor Sapphire Rapids will be released on January 10 next year, based on Intel 7 technology, when we will know which processors and features need to be unlocked at an extra cost.
