Baihetan Hydropower Station is located on the lower reaches of Jinsha River at the junction of Ningnan County in Sichuan Province and Qiaojia County in Yunnan Province. It is the largest hydropower project under construction and the most technically difficult hydropower project in the world, representing the highest level of hydropower station construction in the world at present.

CTOnews.com learned that Baihetan Hydropower Station has installed 16 sets of hydro-generator units independently developed by China and with the largest single unit capacity of one million kilowatts in the world, with a total installed capacity of 16 million kilowatts.

After Baihetan Hydropower Station is fully completed and put into operation, it will become the second largest hydropower station in the world after the Three Gorges Hydropower Station. The average annual power generation capacity will reach 62.443 billion kWh, which can replace about 19.68 million tons of standard coal and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by about 52 million tons.

At that time, the hydropower units completed and put into operation by the Three Gorges Group in the main stream of the Yangtze River will reach 110 units, with a total installed capacity of 71.695 million kilowatts, and together with Wudongde, Xiluodu, Xiangjiaba, Three Gorges and Gezhouba, they will form the world's largest clean energy corridor.
