CTOnews.com November 5 news, Qualcomm said that it may take another two years to see Nuvia-based Qualcomm chips on consumer-grade PC, but it is going well.

In a recent investor conference call, Qualcomm CEO Cristiano Amon explained that the company had recently won several design victories in Snapdragon personal computers.

"based on a large number of design victories so far, we expect that Windows on Snapdragon PCs will have an inflection point by 2024."

CTOnews.com popular science: "Design victory" means that a company carries out a reference design of a component (in this paper, a chip) in order to achieve its sales plan. For example, Qualcomm could show OEM a Nuvia-based reference design, and the manufacturer could then add a subsequent chip that includes a reference-based design to its long-term plan.

While Qualcomm's design victory is good news for the company, it has actually delayed Nuvia's chip plans. They initially planned to sample in August 2022 and launch in 2023, but the latest sampling plan appears to have been postponed to 2023 and then commercialized in 2024.

According to their idea, Qualcomm's Nuvia-based processors, once launched, will compete with Apple's Arm chips such as M1 and M2. Of course, the premise is that their designs are really worthy of commercial use.

Earlier this year, Arm sued Qualcomm for chip design based on Nuvia technology. The lawsuit is still ongoing, alleging that Qualcomm violated the license agreement with Arm and infringed the trademark, so Arm asked Qualcomm to destroy Nuvia's design.

Qualcomm also discussed the results of their current efforts. Amon highlighted the AI functionality recently demonstrated at Microsoft Ignite. "our Snapdragon computing platform demonstrated the game-changing AI capability at Microsoft Ignite 2022 developer Conference, which will redefine the user experience of Windows 11."
