CTOnews.com, Nov. 4 (Reuters)-in an email sent to employees on Thursday, Twitter confirmed that company-wide layoffs will begin on Friday, local time, and employees will receive email notification of dismissal by 9: 00 a.m. local time.

Twitter will cut jobs by nearly 50%, according to insider sources and an investor, although the final figure has not yet been confirmed.

Twitter said in an email that the layoffs are designed to put the company on a healthy path. Twitter also said its office would be temporarily closed and all badges would be suspended to "help ensure the security of every employee, Twitter system and customer data".

CTOnews.com learned that federal and California laws require companies to give advance notice of large-scale layoffs, while a spokesman for the California Department of Employment Development said late Thursday night local time that the agency had not received such notification from Twitter.
